Hi guys not sure if this US best section for this question but...

Anyone know a decent route from.york to Pickering or Thornton Le Dale, to watch first stage of TDY including mileage etc

I'm going via Strensall, Sheriff Hutton, Terrington Bank, Hovingham, Caulkleys Bank, Nunnington, to the A170, then follow round to Wrelton where we're stopping. Pickering's not much further if that's where you're going. Coming back will turn off A170 at Sinnington, down to Marton, Great Barugh, to Amotherby, up and across to Coneysthorpe, then either Flaxton and back or maybe take in Bulmer Bank and Sheriff Hutton and back. About 60 miles with some good hills on the way out.

cycle.travel is a really good mapping tool, quick and easy and shows profiles.
