The Rutland Classic is a race in its own right, it’s not a replacement for anything. It’s been going for over 20 years now.

And the Wincanton classic last happened over 25 ago. If that had continued, I doubt the Rutland would have had the same interest, not been able to claim classic without it being a joke like some others.

The Wincanton (which became the Leeds and then the Rochester Classic), and the Rutland are aimed at different classes of riders. The Wincanton was always a top level pro race attracting World Tour riders, the Rutland has never been a top level pro race, even though it’s listed on the UCI calendar, it has only ever had lower level continental teams riding.

There’s no agreed definition of what a “Classic” race is.

I'm hardly a Big Cheerleader for BC, but I suspect it's BC doing the best they can do in the time.
In the long term the 4 days against 6 isn't good enough, but sounds to be the case that it's 4 days more than might have been on the table for this year so short term at least seems not unreasonable to be thankful for anything
