Fort William to Fort Augustus
Fort William to Fort Augustus
Can anyone confirm if it is possible to cycle off road from Fort William to Inverness. Last year I tried to do it the other way round and had to cycle by road for much of the way because of forestry work. Part of the cycle/pedestrian way was closed to other users.

Re: Fort William to Fort Augustus
I cant answer your question yes or no but a few tears ago there was a program on the telly where they ran a small Garden gauge railway from Fort William to Inverness, the program was hosted by Dick Strawbridge of scrap heap challenge fame. from memory most of it seemed to be on tracks and footpaths they even crossed a weir by the canal (not the one at Inverness) I think it was much earlier on in the series.
if you can track down the program it might give you an insight into a route.
Good luck

Percussive maintainance, if it don't fit, hit it with the hammer.

Have done it both ways on the Great Glen Way back in 2004/6.
From Neptunes Staircase its alongside the Caledonia Canal to Fort Augustus. From there to Inverness is a mixture of road/trail/track.I'm pretty sure there will be a 100% off-road route but it will involve hike-a-bike/pushing/carrying.
