Articles/videos with touring inspiration
I wanted to share this one. It’s posted by EF easy post and is one of their team (Lachlan Morton) doing the great divide as a bike packing trip. He’s not doing it as part of the race (though it’s not a big spoiler though to say he did it pretty quickly). Really nice video- as I’m missing the GCN+ videos and it’s hitting the same spot.
NB Following on from Jacks comments about not wearing gloves when I mentioned it about his videos I’m realising how few people do- and noticed the same in this video- i obviously have delicate hands as I really need gloves. Ps given how cold he got full gloves might have helped (spoiler he did eventually wear some)! Pps insane to take an electronic derailleur on this trip but presumably it’s EFs sponsors kit so you have to use one of their bikes.
No plans for me to do the great divide btw but it is an awesome trip. I’ve read a few crazy guy articles on it before.

Edit: there’s a kit video too- useful for beginner bike packers/tourers and just for generally reflecting on your kit list. He bought the gloves in a gas station. There’s a further argument against the derailleur- constant battery charging. https://youtu.be/EPnYbp7DMjI?si=LDHciHscrOXu56za

I need them too - for a few reasons! In winter my hands get too cold without my thick sealskinz gloves; on summer tours they stop my hands from getting calloused and provide some protection from road rash if I was to fall off (thankfully not a regular occurrence, but having badly grazed palms is super painful and something I'd rather avoid)

My family laugh at me because I always wear gloves (and photochromic glasses) even if I am only cycling to the shops.NB Following on from Jacks comments about not wearing gloves when I mentioned it about his videos I’m realising how few people do- and noticed the same in this video- i obviously have delicate hands as I really need gloves.
I have a variety of them for all seasons although I mostly use fingerless ones.
I still have the scars where my gloves weren't following my high speed crash in Spain!!

I'm the same -- always wearing gloves on bicycle -- 3 reasons 1. it's cold here 2. Memories of road rash palms ( and staved wrists though I suspect all the press ups prevented that on the last 3 bad offs ) 3. Prevents UV skin damage.

I was very impressed with the Rolling Existence world tour YouTube video
I posted a link on a thread I started about it but there wasn't much interest --- truly remarkable journey around the world on bicycles. Well made video too.

The mystery is how that guy pulled that beauty -- definitely punching well above his weight.

Thansk- I’ll watch that one soon.
Need to assess my finances to see when I can afford to subscribe to discovery plus- not in January I suspect but must do it in time for the cobbles.

More from the GDMBR (Banff to New Mexico). I find this inspiring because he's just a normal person without any special ability and with little experience.

That's the whole trip in a single video, but he has a full playlist of 21 videos on his channel. You may, or may not, appreciate his sense of humour

Our 2016 tour of East Anglia included an evening of Shakespeare at Kentwell Hall.
And great to see a national newspaper discussing and promoting cycling.

Whole sequence of videos of talks from Cycle Touring Festival. They are videos of the talks from the festival itself so a load are released after the festival then nothing new for a year until the next event ...

Lots of videos up but new ones wont be until after next festival this May? https://cycletouringfestival.co.uk

Oh- good one @slowster. I cannot recommend the Black Hills SD area highly enough. I didn’t cycle there (we did a family trip with an RV). Lots to see and do, stunning part of the world. Lots of national parks and national monuments, Mount rushmore, crazy horse and it’s not that far (in American distances) from Devils Tower.
