Cycled past the zoo a few times over the years.
Dropped down on the A38 from the south, and along the A4 then up the hill to the zoo. Bus stop opposite with a seat to rest!

I used to come up the A38 to Winscombe then cut across to the A370 to avoid the climb up Redhill to the airport. Then turn off the A370 and climb up the ridge to Failland and pick up the Suspension bridge.

Came across a Victorian Postbox on my dog walk today, in the village of Plungar in north Leics. Looks like it’s still in use. The building looked like the Old Post Office in the village.

I spotted a Queen Victoria postbox on my exercise ride today. How many of these long-standing antiques are still in use?
(And yes, I fear for my sanity.)

As a result of this thread, I'm also fearing for my sanity, as I'm in the process of visiting postboxes. Doing them parish by parish. Done Calstock parish, Callington parish, and there's three or four left for me to do in Stoke Climsland parish. Next, is St Dominic parish.

Here's one we came across last week while walking through Burrington, just west of Ludlow in lovely Herefordshire. Not sure this has been used in a while, in spite of the collection times notice!

On foot because my partner severed her achilles back in July and only just out of the wonderful adjustable plastic boot the NHS provided. She's slowly getting back onto the bike, turbo at this stage, but we're crossing everything and hoping that if not completely back to normal, should still be able to properly cycle and walk in the coming months.

Talking of which, while on the same walk chatted with a local who told us about Shropshire butter buns. I'm a great one for the changing bakery delights as you go on long cycle rides through the countryside, such as end to ends (and I always by-passed Ludlow to the west on the A4110), but these were previously unknown to us. The bakery we stopped at only had 2 left and they were absolutely delicious.

Think we'll be returning to this area on the bikes as soon as we're able!

Reviving the thread. Victoria post box at Castle Howard station. No longer a station but was " created a distinctly characterful little station to serve 'the big house'. It was completed in 1845." The station is some distance from the house on the east side of the A64 down towards the river Derwent. Worth a short detour.

I wonder how often the locks and hinges have needed attention over the last century and a quarter - I reckon the doors would have been opened and closed at the very least 50,000 times !

It's good to see that this topic is still going. I was cycling through the village of Throwley, in Kent yesterday and saw this post box. It's built into the wall of the house next to the church.
