Flying with a bike from Heathrow T5

Post by cotswolds »

I'm flying with a bike tomorrow from Heathrow T5 (British Airways).

I've read all the rules and think I'm ready, but I wondered if anyone has any tips, like a quiet corner to pack the bike, where oversize baggage is, etc.

Flying from T5 is so easy. The place is huge and there is plenty of space where you can find a quiet corner.

If you enter the building in the middle the oversize baggage is almost at the end on your right hand side of the concourse. There are plenty of self service booking in terminals and also lots of check in desks. If you are flying economy just go up to any of them that are manned, business and first class are closer to oversize.

I always use BA when flying the bike, wouldn't use anyone else and the bike has always arrived the other end in perfect condition.

Have a good trip wherever you are going.

Thanks for that, just the kind of reassurance I needed. First time I've flown with a bike, and T5 wasn't around when I used to pass through LHR regularly. The stuff I read about BA is reassuring.

Trip is to Austria. Originally we were going to just cycle down the Danube but decided that might get boring, so we're starting from Innsbruck, heading for Salzburg, then through the lakes to the Danube and down to Vienna.
