You can read the first part (about 54 pages) of my book "Every Inch of the Way" about my round the world adventure for free here: http://www.tombrucecycling.com/book

This is the European leg, from Peckforton, Cheshire, England to Istanbul

Thanks,
Tom

Danny Bent's 'You've gone too far this time sir' about his ride to take up a teaching job in India is a good read and currently free on Kindle.

I'm enjoying the read, Tom, just starting the Asia section. I was interested in the "Dog Dazzer" but a search only brought up "Dog Dazer II", is this the same device?

That's the one, it was a great device, really did work on almost every dog that came at me.

Just finished reading Tyler Hamilton's book and really enjoyed it. Tells it like it really is/was in the Pro Peloton.

I've read many cycling books over the years but these are the ones that have been kept on my bookshelves rather than passed on to a charity shop:

Freewheelin' A Solo Journey Across America by Richard A. Lovett

Miles from Nowhere by Barbara Savage
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Miles-Nowhere-B ... 985&sr=1-1

The Wind In My Wheels: Travel Tales from the Saddle by Josie Dew (her best book by far)
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Wind-My-Wheels- ... 0751502499

A bike ride, by Anne Mustoe - as discussed above

Discovery Road, by Tim Garratt & Andy Brown,

And finally:
Postcards From The Edge of Britain by Peter Mann

Just read the freebie bit (see above) of Tom Bruce's book.

Enjoyed it so I suppose I should buy the rest.

I think one or two folk have critcised the style in that when describing towns buildings views etc he uses a fairly limited vocabulary.

In truth I found this somewhat refreshing, having a limited appreciation of detailed architectural descriptions.

I found the style clear, crisp and down-to-earth with little recourse to over-dramatisation which can make some similar travelogues sound like a breathless over-hyped pub-tale-telling by a breathless gap year returnee with tales of almost being eaten alive by scorpions/cycling across a canyon on a zipwire or whatever.

Instead simple descriptions of slumming it on the cheap are rather empowering.

In the bit I read, despite this down to earth style, I remain somewhat puzzled/bemused possibly alarmed by his hygiene regime - at least a couple of times after what seems like an extended period on the road free camping in woods etc he describes being offered a shower by a friendly local (he meets lots) but declining it because he couldn't be bothered/didn't have time. I would have thought a shower would be a godsend in such situations and set one up for a few days.

This is a lovely book, done for children but great for adults too, especially if you appreciate nice graphics:

I bought the full kindle book in the end - am enjoying it though haven't finished it yet.

So enlightenment on your shower aversion may await me :)
