Mistik-ka wrote:No photograph, but can anyone identify this historic landmark pub by the behaviour of the unforgettable lady (well, female) publican, who referred to Mrs. M. and me in a loud and matey voice, as "the two old mother….ers on the tandem"?

If no takers, I'll try to post a photograph (of the building) tomorrow.

Here's the legendary pub with a series of legendary — and sometimes a bit, um, earthy — female publicans:

It's a beautiful sight to see when the weather is foul.

I'm going to combine "rummaging around in my memory from going there years ago" and "looking at your location", and guess the Humber bridge?

Meanwhile going off, or possibly back on, topic, here's a 1955 shot of the Duchess of Sutherland for those who've outed themselves as steam nerds :D

Aye. It long ago ceased to be the longest single span suspension bridge in the world, but it is still the longest in the world that can be cycled over. There's good cycling to be had either side of that bridge btw.

Hi Gaz,
Quite right - Its Burrow Mump at Burrowbridge on the Somerset levels with the surrounding farmland being pumped out using the extra "Dutch Pumps" to support the installed ones. It featured heavily on the news a couple of months ago.
Is yours something to do with Jane Eyre - i don't want to spoil it for anyone
