Can you help me replace my mashed forks?

Post by Kman »

My early 90s Dawes Super Galaxy forks got mashed going over a pothole, so if you have some nice 531 or similar touring forks with braze-ons for panniers and cantis, I’d love to hear from you! The 1” diameter head tube is 243mm from top of forks to end of tube, of which 53mm is threaded.
Thanks for your interest!

Just an aside, have you confirmed the frame isn't compromised?. Straight edge under the down tube should let you know .

Thanks for the thought - yes, the frame is fine - had it checked at the local bike shop. Here's a pic of the forks

Not too dissimilar to a modern pinarello fork in appearance

They do a bit! Sadly those squiggles are where they got bent by the impact of the pothole!

Would unused forks off a Thorn Raven be suitable - it has 26" wheels but the fork legs are 40cm?

Hi,

I have a pair from a late '80s Galaxy.
24cm steerer with 45mm threaded.
I'd be surprised if they didn't fit.
Paint Is "tired" it was my favourite bike until I swapped to 708 Raleigh Randonneur.
Whereabouts are you based ?

Oof they sound great - my steerer is 243mm from the bottom to top so pretty close! I’m in Oxford

Hi Michael - it looks as if I’ve got sorted with some Orbit forks with all the braze ons and threads from the same era, but many thanks for the offer and I’ll be back in touch if they don’t work out!👍

Hi Michael - the forks I ordered turned out to be damaged when stripped from the frame, so I'd be very interested in yours if still available!

Is the Thorn fork still available? If so, is it a 1 inch or 9/8th inch steerer please?
