Age of British Eagle Touristique
Age of British Eagle Touristique
Hi Folks..Thanks to those folks you replied to my Quest on how to find The Age of a Cycle.
I am Considering selling my Touristique but need a reliable date as to its ageThe last owner said it was circa mid to late 80,s...so...have looked at the Frame No which is barely visible other than take off some paint..oops..Never!!I did consider having a refurb on the frame which would have identified it but even then would it?...But..It has a Shimano Biospace Exage 500 lx chainset and gearing. The stamp on the Canti is BR-M454.Hubs FH-HG50.A HG-HYPERGLIDE Freewheel and the makers transfer on the base of the Seat tube British Eagle Cycle Co,Newtown,Powys..Will upload some pics in the hope that someone out there can give us a clue..Thanks All

No dogsledding/building this time of year so i am back on my bike
I would say 1990 ish also, just by the Reynolds transfers.
All the Shimano bits will have a two letter date code on them somewhere, which will date the bike more accurately (so long as stuff hasn't been upgraded at a later date), in your case it all looks original enough.
The dates are as follows, with the first letter being the year and the second being the month.
A 1976 2002 A January
B 1977 2003 B February
C 1978 2004 C March
D 1979 2005 D April
E 1980 E May
F 1981 F June
G 1982 G July
H 1983 H August
I 1984 I September
J 1985 J October
K 1986 K November
L 1987 L December
M 1988
N 1989
O 1990
P 1991
Q 1992
R 1993
S 1994
T 1995
U 1996
V 1997
W 1998
X 1999
Y 2000
Z 2001
Hope this helps.

Thanks folks for the info..When i had my Galaxy 6 year ago(then 10 year old)it came with the original reciept..simple eh!!.But a friend of mine bought a bike with Shimano Deore equip on it and he picked up a web-site giving an equipment range with years of products that were "in vogue"but as luck would have it he can,t remember... I need to be within 2 years to give an honest answer should i decide to sell it.Anyways need the funds to refurb an Harry Hall so maybe the Galaxy will go as well. But in all fairness the Touristique is a sweet running machine and a lightweight and if you,re into that a looker to boot.It looks a classic tourer. Thanks again all.

I'm sure it's a perfectly nice bike, but it's still not worth more than a Galaxy of the same age and condition.
Oh it's certainly worth more. Whether it would sell for more is a differant matter entirely.
