I think it would be nice if they would take it all the way to Wennington, where the old rail line joins the current one, getting in Hornby, Wray and Wennington. Currently cycling, or even walking beyond Claughton is fairly hazardous, being quite a fast, narrow stretch, with no pavement for pedestrians, so this would improve matters for leisure and commuting riders. Well, everyone.

Yes, this is a much needed link. Even if it gets to Hornby the road to Wennington is not too bad. Unfortunately, I think a lot of the old line has been sold off and any alt would be very close to the river and prone to flooding. Might have to be something along the main road. Would certainly make cycle commuting to Lancaster from Hornby more possible. The ride on the main road is ok in the light but I wouldn't want to do it at night.

I think you find there political will to extend it as far Hornby but like every thing else it down to finding the money to pay for it and buy the land, its case keep reminding local politicans about these things or they never happen! There another disuse railway line which run from Clapham Station up top end of the Lune Valley near Tebay would make another good cycle path.

Yes, it has always been part of the plan. The objections are from Claughton residents who see it as being v close to their gardens.... I've not been close enough to understand the argument but it does look as if the line is actually part of at least one garden now (with all the railway memorabilia).

Clapham to Tebay would be good. I'll get the map out!

Floods right up to that garden, so I've always thought they'd be the fly in the ointment for this idea.

Didn't know about the Clapham to Tebay one either, that would be really good too, and long. Right around/through the Howgills? Would that be related to the viaduct by the M6 in the bottleneck south of Tebay/North of Sedburgh?

Me too Simeon, but been enjoying the pics on your own site, riding along the routes in my head, more and more motivated to get out at next opportunity. Plotting to trespass on some of your routes!
