Have a gander at Whyte hardtails, you'll get something top notch for well under your budget. With mountain biking it is much more about the rider then the bike, having said that a full suss will be less punishing physically which might be something you want to take into account.

I'm a hard tail guy always have been. It's too much of a fuss and weight penalty to go full suspension whatever the perceived benefits.

I have taken the plunge and bought a Santa Cruz Tallboy.
It's full suspension and has 29 er wheels.
Just realised that it has tubeless rims and tyres , one of which has suddenly deflated. All new to me so another learning curve as to how to sort that one.

Mine was tubeless so I put in tubes.

Reuse, recycle, thus do your bit to save the planet.... Get stuff at auctions, Dump, Charity Shops, Facebook Marketplace, Ebay, Car Boots. Choose an Old House, and a Banger ..... And cycle as often as you can......
