Recently aquired a full suspention MTB frame ,i am about to build it up with parts that i already have .
The chainset is a Shimano Dynasys 10 speed .
My question is , i have a new XT rear hub but it would have been originaly for 8 or 9 speed use, will a 10speed cassette fit onto the same body?
My thinking is with the chain being narrower maybe the cassette would be more compact taking the same space as the 9 speed would
I dont have a 10 speed casette at the moment to try.
Shimano FH-M756A XT 8/9 speed rear hub, will it take10 speed?

So a ten speed cassette is actually narrower than a nine?! Interesting, any idea whether that is specific to Shimano? Only ask as I'm all but certain that I bunged a Sram ten speed cassette straight onto an m975 XTR hub...

Update on fitting the 10 speed Shimano cassette.
Just fitted it without the 1mm spacer, works perfectly,if i had of fitted the spacer i think the locking ring would have been short of thread

Some 10s need a spacer and some don't.
I had an Ultegra cassette that came with a spacer but the 105 , Tiagra & SLX didn't.
It might also depend on which freehub model it is fitted too.
8s, 9s and 10s, as far as I know, all fit the same hub.

You'll never know if you don't try it.
