(not) road rage in Belfast

Post by MickTheCyclist »

Just thought I'd share the following 'incident' from my commute this morning.
I'm sitting at red traffic lights in the ASL waiting to turn right.
Taxi pulls up right beside me completely in the ASL. His window is fully down.

Me 'Hello, you know shouldn't enter the cycle box when the light is red'
Him, 'Yes, I know, I'm sorry about that.
Me (as the lights change), 'OK, have a nice day'
Him, 'You too'

Nice one Mick you both went off your different ways with smiles on your faces so how bad is that.

Meanwhile he thinks, "But I do it routinely anyway. And I have enough common sense to realise that a quiet apology is usually disarms anyone who points it out."

Being friendly to people who do things you disagree with is a wise approach. You are more likely to make people think about your point of view if you have not put them in a defensive mode. Well done.

I've only ever got bombarded by abuse when i've tried a similar approach so i don't bother anymore. Their chances of actually getting ticketed for the offence are extremely small and they know it so unless that changes the practice will continue.
Convention? what's that then?
