It's clearly not -ck, but then there is no english version of that sound.
A shortcut has to be a challenge, otherwise it would just be the way. No situation is so dire that panic cannot make it worse.

Which used to confuse me a LOT when I was young. My parents used to shake their heads a lot at the English approximation of the sound!

Collops. The -gh is lough is not the same as the -ck in lock. The English pronounce it that way but that doesn't mean anything.


Sorry, I meant that the vowel rhymes, not the whole word!
Interestingly in Irish poety (poetry in Irish Gaelic) the rhyme is only a vowel rhyme. The terminal consonants only rhyme by accident..
