Mid Life Crisis

I was hoping my next mid life crisis (there's been a few) was going to involve a Harley Davidson but it turns out to be a Vanmoof. Are these bikes as good as they look? Is it just a posing machine or would I be able to commute 15 miles there and back. Whose got one of these lovely creations?

Never heard of these before I read your post, so took a look. Brilliant. There's even a dealer near me.

I can't believe there haven't been any replies to your post. Seems like a great commuter.

And as an amazing coincidence there's just been a feature about toe 'e' versions on BBC Click. Worth a look. It's repeated on the News channel throughout the week and is available on iPlayer.

I'm not sure which one I'd be interested in, seems a lot of overlap, and some of there terms are confusing, but maybe a bit more detailed reading will clarify.

Same as Barry never heard of them prior to now and they certainly look " cool" bikes. Past the Harley stage in life but if ever I sell my BMW GS I might buy one.

On the subject of 'practical, no fuss, minimal maintenance' bikes, I'm currently looking at a Gazelle.

Fully equipped with mudguards, hub gears, chain guard, lights, roller brakes, rack, it looks just right. Prices are attractive too. I suppose it's because they are Dutch, and made for a utility not fashion market. The Vanmoof does appear to be priced as a niche product, bit like Moulton. I can't imagine they are treated much differently over there to fridges. You buy it, you use it, it lasts, that's it.

Anyone got and experiences of these? The particular model I'd go for is the Orange Pure - Nexus 7 and no front suspension.

My local dealer (http://www.reallyusefullbikes.co.uk) is out of stock at the moment, so can't get to see it in the flesh for a while.
