local cycling infrastructure

Post by honesty »

Ok there has been many topics on this previously, but I cycle through this one regularly and decided to finally take a photo. Its not specifically bad but it makes me giggle every time.

for those who cant make out the writing, the wide open unrestricted path on the left says "NO CYCLING", the one through the ridiculous fence contraption that meant I cant take my daughter to school in a trailer says "CYCLE ROUTE".

There was an interesting blog posted today http://aseasyasridingabike.wordpress.co ... vehicular/ about the difference between the UK and Dutch approach to infrastructure. In that in the UK we treat cyclists as if they are pedestrians and attempt to convert pedestrian infrastructure with little regard for the needs of cycling. Whereas the Dutch treat bicycles as vehicles in their own right.
