OK, I was out with my local CTC group yesterday and the topic of conversation got to politics. I was in the minority (not wanting to vote ukip) and I called ukip a bunch of racist viewtopic.php?f=15&t=10801. I was moaned at for talking about politics (even though so where 2 other people, It just seemed I was moaned at because there where less of me (1)).
Should politics be alowed to be discussed? Isn't most topics politics in one form or another? I could be talking about housing in the local area or jobs or energy...
EDIT: How about road surfaces, that is politics (council).

You were moaned at because you were showing you have a brain and an understanding of adult things.
What would be the point of moaning at the other two? By definition they have shown that they need a responsible adult appointed to do their thinking for them.

Re: CTC "rules"
A large proportion of people just don't want to talk politics. It's also the kind of thing that some people are very passionate about and the result can be heated arguments. Many people just want to relax on their bike ride. It's one of those things that is fine as long as everyone is broadly in agreement or they are the kind of people that like debating and don't easily get worked up or offended. Even then there will most likely be others in the group who have no interest or don't want to get involved. They will quickly tire of listening to a conversation which is likely to go on and on.
I don't think the CTC needs any rules that don't exist elsewhere. I would think it unwise in any social setting to go round branding other people or those they support racists. There may be a political element to many issues which get discussed but these can generally be discussed without turning them into party political issues. Many people have fairly set political loyalties and will just dig their heels in when these are being criticised.

But from it sounds like he made a statement about a political party (I found it hard to write the last bit). Even Garage admits most are racist and loons.
So only repeating what their hero says.
Not exactly criticising individuals anyway they support skip so deserve it.

Re: CTC "rules"
On our club rides, at least in the leisure group I'm part of these days, our discussion is mostly banter, cafe rating and bike comparison. I do like a political discussion, but I don't instigate it, and I don't recall anyone else doing so. Oh, apart from a Scottish member bemoaning the fact he doesn't have a vote in September because he lives in England.

Re: CTC "rules"
The conversation developed into politics it went
British frame (moulton) -- British industry -- Failing car manufacturing industry (British 70's-80's) -- Unions -- Basic need people should be entitled too -- Economics/Socialism/capitalism -- "over reaching EU" -- Europe elections -- UKIP!
It wasn't like someone decided to talk about politics it just went that way.
It reminds me of the old advert about "not doing politics" and then the guys gets annoyed at the price of his pint. Politics is everything.
