Downslink closed north of Steyning

Post by squeaker »

Shut for a week from 3 Oct 2011 - no easy off road diversion - bummer :(
Doesn't show up on WSCC's on-line roadworks list nor on the Cycle Route Planner

"For bridge repairs". You can get round quite easily via Upper Beeding.

Er, a bit more info would be useful, Pete! I'm not aware of any alternative bridleways....

If you wanted you to know about this (rare) temp closure in advance, even to influence decisions, you could attend the local council's Local Access Forum (LAF) and Rights of Way surgery meetings, or get yourself added to the circulation list for the agenda and minutes. Cyclist representation is usually limited compared to walkers and horse riders but the input is welcomed. Importantly, you can also be advised of attempted to close or downgrade bridleways, which require a firm challenge.

I did go to a WSCC one a while back. A serious case of Administratium, IMHO. Looking at the minutes of the last meeting, not a lot has changed, nor were path closures on the agenda.
However you have given me the spur to follow this up with WSCC.
Thanks.
