The bikeradar review suggests that the commuter model of the cats ears is effective for commuter speeds, and that appears just to be polartec 300 rather than fur. I may experiment as I have some of that stuff.
The catear things seem expensive to buy for what they are, and I'd prefer to try the idea out on a home made model before buying a proper one. I have tinnitus in one ear anyway and would need to see how it was affected by wearing something like that first.

Re: Cats ears
I have quite large ears so really suffer from the cold on my lobes but wouldn't wear one of these. A nice buff keeps my ears and the back of my neck warm. Sorted.
And mine was free from doing the Dartmoor Classic last year

I have a couple of the original Buffs but they were bought before the price was inflated to extreme.
I get real Mr Buffs from the roadside for free
Funny you should mention that but the one I cut in half was a road find (I washed it first though )
if buying one I find ALDI or LIDL do just as well.
Yep a good source of 'tube warmers',and so cheap,I bought a similar product for £4.99 yesterday ,it's no different than the originals I own
