CYCLISTS are being urged to wear hi-vis clothing after new figures revealed there has been a 27 per cent increase in the number of cyclists being seriously injured or killed on Devon roads.

Following on from the recent Devon County Council report, the East and Mid Devon Community Safety Partnership wants cyclists to ensure they can be seen by other road users both day and night.

Police Inspector Antonia Weeks, said: "It's a small price to pay to save your own or someone else's life."


Just reading the local paper this morning, and was amazed. Again.

DRIVERS are being urged to drive a little bit more slowly and carefully after new figures revealed there has been a 27 per cent increase in the number of cyclists being seriously injured or killed on Devon roads.

Following on from the recent Devon County Council report, the East and Mid Devon Community Safety Partnership wants cyclists to ensure they can be seen by their children and other family members until a natural death at a ripe old age.

Police Inspector Antonia Weeks, said: "It's a small price to pay to save your own or someone else's life."

Indeed. The Police should remind drivers of Highway Code paragraph 126.

Rule 126

Stopping Distances. Drive at a speed that will allow you to stop well within the distance you can see to be clear.


This rule needs to be mentioned any time hiviz is recommended.
