i'm looking around for a pair of track race wheels - points race orientated rather than sprint events & for tubs most likely.
what are the options for hubs and rims that can be built up as many seem to be factory built (shamals etc) that are hugely overpriced (or they seem that way to me!)
track wheels
Re: track wheels
what chainline are you running?
How 'aero' do you want to go? ( rims, spokes, reduced spoke count...?)
What kind of rim weight would you think acceptable? ( aero rims tend to be heavier... no free lunch, as usual...)
What section tubs will you want to use?
Do you have any strong likes/dislikes for styles of hub etc?
What kind of budget are you shooting for?
cheers

Re: track wheels
Maybe something from Single Speed Components (I have no connection with them other than being a customer, for cranks not wheels), their wheel packages look competitive.

What kind of rim weight would you think acceptable? ( aero rims tend to be heavier... no free lunch, as usual...) something lighter than a shamal. google searches seem to point to gigantex but i've never seen one of their rims in the flesh. not overly sure about carbon as they might see a brake block in road TT use.
What section tubs will you want to use? 23s
Do you have any strong likes/dislikes for styles of hub etc? not really but i don't want radial spoking. it just doesn't look right!!
What kind of budget are you shooting for? hmm. nothing bonkers
cheers
Re: track wheels
OK if we take campag pista wheels
http://www.velodromeshop.net/index.php?p=product&id=236
as a baseline they are over 2kg/pr and cost about £560/set (cough splutter wheeze)
Thus these
http://www.planetx.co.uk/i/q/WPGIPIK28/gipiemme-pista-k28-700c-tubular-wheelset
being lighter, just as aero (I think) and about 1/3rd of the price would seem to be a good starting point for further discussions, no? (although I'm not sure about chainline and they do have a radial front; maybe that can be rebuilt as 1x so as not to offend?... )
Any good?
cheers

Re: track wheels
yeah not bad. the italian flag stickers come off right?
was thinking along the lines of handbuilts though probably using top notch hubs and some sort of (as yet unknown) deep/aero rim. will keep searching.
incidentally these are good value though no?

Re: track wheels
yup but only in 32H. For strength, I'd sooner have a lighter rim in 36h in a 700C wheel than a heavy rim in 32h myself. They are cheap though!
