What light for dynamo hub?
What light for dynamo hub?
£40 or there abouts to spend. Need a lamp to go with my shimano dynamo hub. One that has a good mount as the bike goes over plenty of rough track, has a stand light function, and will be used 70% lit urban roads and 30% unlit cycle paths through parks and the like. And will often get left out in the rain, snow, etc. Just seem so many out there around this price point...which one do people recommend?
Be nice if it had all the wires with it as I don't have these.

Cyo Premium, assuming you have mudguards.
Re: What light for dynamo hub?
Have been using a Hermanns H-One for 3 years now. Good light and robustly made with an aluminium rather than plastic body. Mine is the earlier 60 Lux version so the cuurrent one (75 Lux) should be even better. http://www.rosebikes.com/article/herrma ... aid:555419 Barcket is robust and it comes with cables for dynohub and back light connection. Has on, off and auto settings.

The B&M IQ Cyo Premium can be had for around £40:

Superb light. Nothing comes close to its light output and beam shape in that price range. It has a good standlight function and comes with bracket and wires attached. Spare cables can be had cheap:

Agree with everyone else Been using a cyo for the last five years, all year round commuting, still works perfectly, great light with a good spread.had a van driver comment on it in a positive way. "Great light thought you was a moped, mate"

+1 for the Cyo premium. Absolutely brilliant light with its output and standard mount.
Mine takes me along a rough unlit riverside cycle path long after everyone's gone sleepies without issue.
On the road it appears to be doing its job too. A cyclist in the opposite lane on a particularly wide A road the other night said to me as he passed, "Wow that's seriously bright!" No mention of him being blinded.
Standlight is good for 4 mins easily.
Other than a little condensation on the standlight led's from washing the bike upside down once, it's been flawless.

My personal opinion is that to get comments like this the observer's eyes have to be on the wrong side of the cutoff. If you look at any of the beamshots you can barely even get retroreflectives to work above the cutoff. Not that I begrudge any cyclist aiming their lights in this way.

+1 for Cyo Premium. Have them on 2 mudguarded bikes. Both upgraded from standard Cyo when the Premium first arrived on the scene - so quite old? Very secure, superb beam pattern and brightness. Only minor criticism is the switch feels sloppy and 'vague' - not that it's ever been a problem and I tend to leave it on AUTO anyway - or ON in the winter

The beam cuts off around 25 feet in front of me or at around headlight level on most cars.
Bright doesn't have to mean blinding

If the beamshot is accurate BuM may finally have produced a dynamo light worth buying http://www.bumm.de/produkte/dynamo-sche ... -iq-x.html
At a price. Assuming it's properly weatherproofed...

What is it about that beam-shot that makes you say that and what is typically wrong with the beam of B&M lights?

Re: What light for dynamo hub?
Comparing the beam shot to the Luxos and the Cyo Premium I'm not convinced it's a step forward (for my tastes, anyway). Will be interesting to try one in the flesh and see how good it really is, though.
