Rear deraileur question.

Post by Justin »

Hi,

Can anyone tell me please if a Shimano 9 speed rear derailleur will work ok on a 7spd MTB and an 8spd MTB?

Thank you.

I use Deore 9spd rear mechs on 7 and 8 speed mtb's and they work perfectly.

Thanks Erudin, that's good to know it'll work ok.

I was a bit concerned as I thought the jockey wheels may be different on the 9 speed one to accommodate the thinner 9 speed chains.

the 9s pulleys are a gnat's slimmer, but not by enough to stop you from using 8s chain in a 9s mech.

cheers
