Presta tube in a Schrader hole

Post by climo »

Just bought a Thorn Nomad for Mrs C. After a few days found that the rims had been drilled out for the larger valve but has the smaller valve tube installed. Is this OK? If not then is there any solution short of using Schrader valves.

Also what size tubes are better for a 2 inch tyre? 40 or 60mm?

you get these things

I wonder if an appropriately sized (big enough to over the valve and bigger than the hole in the rim) washer between the valve and the rim would work? It would be the same as the tubing pressing up against the inside of the rim?

Schwalbe tubes come with a "securing nut" that does this job for free:

I thought that the tube might move fractionally and wear through around the base of the valve. Dunno though.

I have the Mavic converter on a wheel that unexpectedly came with a Shraeder-drilled hole. No problems in three or so years.

Great, thanks. I'll get some.
