Triple FD for Stronglight Impact Triple
Triple FD for Stronglight Impact Triple
Hi
Could anyone give me a recommendation for a band-on Triple FD to work with a Stronglight Impact Triple 46/34/24.
Many thanks for any help, Simon

Re: Triple FD for Stronglight Impact Triple
I've no experience with Stronglight triples, but I am using an Ultegra 6703 with a Deore XT 44/32/22 chainset without issues (From a 6603 STI)

Re: Triple FD for Stronglight Impact Triple
from my recent experience the first questions I'd ask are "does the cable go from above or below" and "what shifters are you using". I found my Claris triple wasn't matched to the EEzifire type shifters, as they are the ratio for MTB front shifters!
Re: Triple FD for Stronglight Impact Triple
I think it's fair to say that for those ring sizes, almost any MTB or road triple FD will work fine, as long as they are matched up to the shifter type you're using. But I'd avoid the top swing MTB mech's (band below mech) - they wear out very quickly in my experience. Not such an issue with friction shifting, but for indexed shifting, they can be a reeet pain.

Here a FD 5603 works with a Stronglight Impact Triple 46/36/24 Zephyr chainrings and 12-27 cassette.

6703 on my wife's bike with Sugino triple 24-34-48. For a time I had a stronglight with same chainrings and 6703 front mech.

Re: Triple FD for Stronglight Impact Triple
My partner's bike has a Stronglight Impact Triple, 46-36-26, uses Sora shifters and band-on Ultegra FD (6703), Ultegra rear derailleur and 8 speed cassette down to 32.

Re: Triple FD for Stronglight Impact Triple
I've used Stronglight Impact triples with 24/26-34/36-46/48 with Ultegra,105,Tiagra,Sora,mechs with friction and Road STI's and Deore with friction levers.
All work perfectly with any combination of those rings.

Agreed.
I should coco.
Re: Triple FD for Stronglight Impact Triple
Many thanks for all the replies very useful. I have down tube non-indexed shifters. Cheers, si

With only 10T difference between middle and outer, many MTB front mechs won't work well.
They have a minimum middle/outer difference of 12T, so you need to raise the outer plate about 4 mm above the outer chainring to get the inner plate high enough to let you shift onto the outer chainring without foulding the middle chainring.

I'm using a FD-R443 8 speed with that combination and bar end shifters.
