I went over a bump and....

Post by Brucey »

This afternoon, I went over a bump (on my roadster) and suddenly the steering was a bit, well, different...

Anyone care to speculate as to what had happened?

I will reveal the actual events tomorrow morning; in the meantime, happy guessing!

cheers

Quill stem turned in the steerer tube, leaving the bars facing sideways and the wheel facing forwards? It happened to me when I was in my teens, causing laundry issues.

Happened to me in my thirties, whilst overtaking a line of cars (practice as a kid riding 'hands free' paid off as I was able to steer back through the traffic and pull over - although stopping without transferring weight forward was 'interesting'). Was a new bike that had been threaded too far down the stem.

One side of the bars 'came off in my hand m'Lud'
A shortcut has to be a challenge, otherwise it would just be the way. No situation is so dire that panic cannot make it worse.

Stem broke.
Happened to me as a teenager, and I jammed the thing back in and rode home.

You're still here, Brucey, so it wasn't too dire. Glad of that.

it is an interesting notion, but it was a bike problem, not a Brucey problem! It could easily have turned into a Brucey problem though....

it could have been a lot worse than it turned out..... I shall tell all tomorrow...
