Interest check - Grease Mobilith SHC 1500

Post by csowter »

Hi All,
I'm buying some of the aforementioned grease for maintenance of my bike. The price of it drops rapidly when buying in quantity. The tubes are 400grams, and would be ~£33 each if 5 people wanted one, and ~£26 each if another 11 wanted one. I'm wanting to know if anyone's interested before I order for myself only.

Many thanks,
Colin.

Welcome Colin,

This is a good idea, which has been done before on the CTC Forum.

As you are a new user here, you need to think about the sales procedure to protect both your potential fellow customers and yourself from . . . misunderstandings.

Good Luck

Hi Graham,
Thanks for the welcome.

To keep things as simple as possible, I had planned to gauge interest, then buy a suitable amount and sell after. Seems to be the easiest way, and then I wouldn't have money from people before I had a product for it.

something similar was done a couple of years ago. Trouble is there are a limited numbers of buyers on this forum and they've probably got enough to last them a few years - me included

I bought two tubes when 531colin organised it a while back, so don't need any.
However, I very much recommend this stuff. Smells a bit awful, but it's excellent grease for headsets and BB's.

Yes, highly recommended! :D

Good to know there's some demand. I'm going to let this thread go for a week and then order some next Monday.

Csowter, thanks for organising this. Count me in.
MickF mentioned hubs and headsets, are there any other applications for this grease that anyone knows of?
I'm wondering if it would be suitable for a Nexus 8 hub gear?
Best wishes,

Luke.

I don't know how it compares with Silkoline Pro RG2, but the spec looks similar? I've found the Silkoline to be excellent over a long time in harsh conditions (especially waterproof) About £10 for 500g pot.

I find it is a bit thick for hubs, though I have used it for them. The front is ok, but it is a bit thick for the ratchet pawls in the freewheel assembly. It's mainly for the headset, as the grease is designed for heavy slow moving bearings and I also use it in the BB bearings.

As for a hubgear, I would suggest not and you'd be better using the specified lube.

I've been looking for an alternative to lithium grease for hubs, any ideas?

I use & highly recommend Finish Line Teflon grease for hubs. It is also what Cytech recommend for hubs.
