Make my Brooks Saddle shiny again

Post by mnichols »

After a few experiments with modern saddles I've gone back to my Brooks, but it's looking a bit dull and it's lost its shine

Does anyone have any tips for how I can return it to it's former glory?

after proofide - a bit of bum action will restore any shine

The main downside of Brooks saddles (and similar) is the way you slide around on them. I try to keep the shine to a minimum! Unfortunately the "bum action" constantly maintains the shine.

Just use it and it will self polish a treat.

...but I'm with 'pwa' - the shiner the saddle the harder it is to sit still on it!

I find that the moving around is brilliant! :D
Going steeply down hills I can slide back easily, and I can dismount and mount easily too.

For many years, I had a sued saddle and it gripped very well and I thought it was the bee's knees. Then, I had a leather Maddison G14 for years too and that was quite grippy. As soon as I went to my beloved Brooks Team Pro, it transformed my riding. Being able to change positions and move about on it is absolutely wonderful.

As for the OP's question, polish.
Proofide, Cherry Blossom or whatever, and ride it and ride it and ride it.

I've got quite shiny Brooks saddles. I reckon that if it's an effort to hold yourself in position without sliding forwards or backwards this is an excellent indicator of incorrect nose tilt.

Hebden Cord plusses or shorts will help.
