Nervar Chainset

Post by Halla »

I have been asked by a friend to sell a Nervar Chainset. It has 52 & 42 teeth rings.

It has 5 bolt holes and the BCD measures at 116mm, which seems to be a redundant size.

The chainset has not been used, so could do someone good service.

Does anyone know anything about them.

Many thanks

I remember seeing some I would guess very late 1970's/early 1980's, 116mm BCD seems about right for what I remember seeing. The ones I saw were forged cranks, detachable rings, on par with the cheaper end of reasonable Stronglight.
Although redundant BCD, I guess new rings could be cnc machined, though not an economic proposition considering what you can buy of the shelf.
If its unused, then there should be a good deal of life in it, as it will have "proper" teeth (not the sculpted ones of today), on the down side no shifting ramps might make indexed shifting sluggish, assuming the ring spacing is index compatible.

my first road double was a Nervar back in the er 70's! I can only ever recall seeing lower end stuff from them but i'm sure it would be a great item for a vintage build. :D
Convention? what's that then?

I had a couple of Nervar chainsets in the 70s. Mine used the Stronglight 49D/TA Cyclotouriste type BCD http://velobase.com/ListComponents.aspx ... db7cd1fc06

116 BCD chainrings are still available e.g. Miche Young http://www.miche.it/en/catalogo/catalog ... oung-19852 https://en.hollandbikeshop.com/branded- ... chainring/

Thanks for your help on this.

I have looked further, it is probably a 1980's chain set, looks very much like a lot of others sold at that time.

The cranks have BSA stamped on the rear.
