It washes off? So no use in the rain, and you have to keep reapplying it. That's taking built in obsolescence to its logical conclusion I suppose...
A shortcut has to be a challenge, otherwise it would just be the way. No situation is so dire that panic cannot make it worse.

It's supposed to wash off, it's classed as paint rather than the chemical name so it will be easier for people to understand.
Good grief! It's free and the thought was to do something nice

This thread reminds me of the story of the chap who turned down rescue from a helicopter and a lifeboat etc saying that god will save him.
The chap drowned in the end

Wouldn't it be much better if they spent their efforts on promoting the idea that road users' should keep their eyes open and concentrate properly!

Why would you design it to wash off?

That's just daft...

Launching a product to help cyclists to be seen in the dark at the start of British Summer Time? Not the best timed piece of marketing ever.

I can't seem to find a list of the bike shops that are giving it away for free.

The idea has a 70's retro feel to it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1MFuSMz1zh0

It's nice to see so much visibility stuff these days. Even just 10 years ago you had to search hard to find kit that would help you stand out at night. In an urban setting with lots of street lighting and vehicle lights I think reflectives on clothing / bags can make you stand out more than having good lights on your bike. Wearing the stuff, you don't see it yourself. But when I'm driving the car I notice how well some riders stand out, making it easier for me to plan my manoeuvre around them.

Not sure about this product washing off, though.

A family member bought a Volkswagen Sirocco not so long ago and took it to one of those shady car wash enterprises that employ illegals ... and they did a most excellent job of washing the paint off one of the side panels.
I should coco.

Bloody Volvo, literally white-washing cycling to distract from their attempts to delay the introduction of safer lorry requirements in the EU and thereby contributing to killing loads more people http://www.bbc.com/news/business-30436153 - I've not tried it and I hope it's a massive commercial flop, costing Volvo as much money as possible.

still the product is useful for all vehicles, I came up with an idea to fit a transmitter to your bike that is picked up by vehicles with an audiable alarm to alert that a bike was within range... absolutely no interest from anyone.

recently I nearly got run over by a megabus at 6:00 am in the morning on the A45 driver was obviously speeding and he was forced into the outside lane and forced a lorry onto the grass verge...

he flagged me down and tried to blame me lol, saying he didn't see me until a car had overtaken me... he had called the police to report the incident (no collision etc..) and he claimed the police would want to talk to me, I was happy to do so.. I pointed out that:

1. I was in front
2. I was fully lit up
3. a car had seen me and overtaken safely
4. he was behind me and obviously travelling to fast to break safely espescially as he was aware a car moved out to overtake
5. He must have been speeding to undertake a lorry (his tacograph will show this)

He then changed his mind :-) and said the police probably didn't need to speak to me.

I doubt the spray would fix that or any safety system either - crap driver = dead cyclist...

Yeah, that's the core problem of the Near Miss Project viewtopic.php?f=7&t=95259 and one they don't seem to have many solutions for yet. Fortunately, drivers that crap are far rarer than it sometimes feels.

But A45? Whew. That's the sort of road I feel I've been pretty much bullied off by a mix of motor-centric design and traffic law non-enforcement :-( Well done for flying the bike on it.
