how low can i go ?

Post by bikerwaser »

I have a Genesis Longitude which has Alex Supra 35 rims on it. despite the name they 're actually 622-30 and they have 2.4 inch (622-60) Conti X Kings on them.
i'm thinking of putting some narrower and more road friendly tyres on it.
I've got my eye on the Schwalbe Big Apple tyres and they do a 622-50, which i'd like to go for but.... I 've checked the ETRTO charts and they say that i shouldn't go below 55 (actually they don't show a 622-30 on there but i'm extrapolating)

Advice anyone please ?

There's always these if you're concerned:- http://www.schwalbe.com/gb/tour-reader/super-moto.html
They aren't heavy either for a big tyre @ 680g for a 700x2.35inch tyre
There's also this in 700x55mm:-

thanks !
yes , good alternatives . the Supermoto doesn't give as good protection though. Big Ben is a good option .

Cheers !

Hi
I don't have experience of these, however, Conti make Comfort Contact in 622-54mm which doesn't quite make the 55mm that you specified

standard fitment on innumerable roadsters is a ~35mm section tyre fitted to a rim with an internal width of ~22mm.

Pro rata, this would equate to a ~47mm tyre on a 30mm internal width rim.

So I would perhaps try a tyre a little smaller than your notional 54mm and see how you get on with it.

cheers
