Thank you.
I have been looking for stores that sell ammonia and couldn't find any.
Hopefully I'll track some down tonight or tomorrow maybe from Boots?

Just bought two 500ml bottles from the high street. 99p a bottle. The bike is not accessible until next week. I'll remove the crank and bb, turn it upside down and let it soak from Monday evening for a week.

Hi,
On ebay there is 25 % strength stuff :?:
Whats you commoner gardener house cleaner :?:
I have my very first stuck seat post and I have spent some time flexing the frame to no avail, so will be trying the ammonia route.

Does the ammonia damage the paintwork?

5% surfactant means it has some soap in it.

If you use ammonia on aluminium parts it 'changes the finish'; this is normally a bad thing but it is exactly what you want, it is how the stuff works to loosen an aluminium seat pin in a steel frame.

cheers

Thanks Brucey.
I really hope it works.
Do you think a soaking for a fort night would be better than a week?

Honestly, I don't know; I've not used this particular technique for any length of time. I've normally bottled it and used a different method.

cheers

Make sure you have good ventilation when you use the ammonia - it's strong enough to knock you out.

Hi
Slightly concerned, if you weren't aware of it's effect on aluminium, what else are you unaware of in relation to ammonia?
Get the product safety data sheet either from the supplier or on the 'net and read it well, before you open the bottle
Regards
