Resising 135 to 120 OLN

Post by belgiangoth »

I'm thinking of re-sizing my Pompino to 120 (it's the old frame version which is mtb, 135 size). The thinking is that this will allow me a better availability/broader range of rear fixed hub (including better spec) and would mean that I could swap wheels between the Pompino and my old steel track bike.
Is this a really daft idea? Is there an advantage to having 120 or 135 size for a fixed gear?
If I had a baby elephant, I would put it on a recumbent trike so that it would become invisible.

How about compromising on 126mm?
126 will spring into a 120 frame, at least temporarily until you want to bend the 120
I would much rather bend the 135 to somewhere around 130 - 126 than all the way to 120
As already said, chainline and BB axle length to consider.....
Suitable hubs that can be spaced up or down to 126 are not a problem....http://www.spacycles.co.uk/products.php?plid=m2b0s171p0....Surly may be worth a look, too.

I'd just buy a new Pompino frame - they are such great value (no connection apart from being satisfied with my Pompino)

Well, at that point I'd have to upgrade, and I wouldn't know to what and ... (etc). If I'm going for a new frame I might as well go for a new bike and I can't go for ANOTHER fixie.
