Ortleib - discounted?

Post by Sweep »

I know it's maybe a vain hope since those canny Germans have made quality stuff (I have some already) which the world recognises the value. And nor do they change the design every year for fashion reasons.

But.

Is there a good place to get Ortleib stuff?

I probably need:

Backroller classics
A medium size rackpack duffle bag type thing which I think is designed to clip onto these.
Washing up bowl (should have snapped up the Lidl one when it was available - for all I know it was as good.
Water pouch thing - maybe.

I would prefer to get it all from the same place - convenience plus postage/delivery reasons etc.

I bought some back roller classic from a company on ebay. Company was name was "total_access_uk" on e-bay. They do other Ortlieb stuff too. Price for the panniers was £89.90 with free postage. They arrived fast too.

"BC" ususally have a big selection of Ortlieb to competetive prices:
https://www.bike-components.de/en/Bags/ ... =price_asc

Notice that you sometimes can get slightly discounted Back-Rollers if they are branded. Rose bikes have these fx: http://www.roseversand.de/artikel/ortli ... aid:553754

Both places are excellent web shops.

There are some new Back-Rollers on the market called "Back-Roller Black´n White". They use the new 2.1 QL attachment system like the "plus" series, and is made of a different material than both the classic and plus series. Somewhat more square-ish in its design. The price is identical with the Classic line.

A set of Back-Roller Classics usually can be found for around 100-110 Euro in German shops that sells outside Germany. Can be found perhaps 10 Euro cheaper if branded by a store name. They are rarely on sale below that.

if you want a proper retailer and help support the cycle industry you could do worse than these guys - free postage over £15 http://www.jejamescycles.co.uk/index.ht ... er&x=0&y=0 -

Thanks for the answers folks.

They do kind of match my idea that big discounts are rare/non existent.

On an associated topic, I gather that these things:

http://www.roseversand.de/artikel/ortli ... /aid:24696

can be attached directly to back roller classics (it's one of the reasons I am thinking of getting some rollers though I already have some backpacker pluses) but which size/sizes can you do this with?

Are all compatible?

If more than one is compatible do any folks have any views on which sizes work best, and if so why?

If you want that type of waterproof pannier why not get Carradry. Slightly larger than Ortlieb equivalents, cost less and Carradice are an even more reputable manufacturer.

The pockets etc can be fitted to any of the bags, how many and which size will depend on your needs. I've fitted a few of these and they are very simple to do. Otoh most people seem to manage without extra bits. :D

You don't actually get different model years as they roll over until the next version is released - Rollers haven't changed in @ 5 years.
