Hi,
My handlebars snapped in half yesterday. They're cinelli Campione del Mondos, but i have no idea how old. Does anyone know what size clamp they will have been? Also does anyone know of any shallow drop bars with the same clamp size I could replace them with?
Thanks for your help,
Matt
Snapped cinelli bars
Re: Snapped cinelli bars
otherwise known as Mod 66 bars these were a deep drop bar. IIRC if you want a little shallower then some Mod 63s or Mod 64s are what you want.
You will need to measure the clamp size carefully because old cinelli ones were 26.4mm and then at some point they changed to 26.0mm IIRC.
I'd be interested to see any pics you may have of the breakage, and to hear if you had any warning of imminent failure.
cheers

Re: Snapped cinelli bars
thanks for that Brucey, they snapped without warning as i was pulling away from lights, they'd been drilled for cables by someone before i inherited them though and snapped right through the drill hole, so my own fault for using them really. just measured and they're 26.4 would there be any shallow dropped bars around, or is that before shallow drops?
thanks again
thanks again
Re: Snapped cinelli bars
uh-huh... drilled, that makes sense...
yeah, find some Mod 63 or mod 64 cinellis; they are shallower than mod 66 ones.
cheers

Re: Snapped cinelli bars
I've used 64s for the last 28years, so I was alarmed by the OP.
Thank goodness it was caused by adulterating them by drilling. An absolutely stupid thing to do IMHO.
