Re: Unintended consequences

MTB riding is not my scene but from the odd posting in other forums on this subject (chain drops), MTB'ers reduce chain jump/drops incidents by the use of thick/thin chainrings (i.e. alternate chainring teeth are thick/thin and align with the wide/narrow gaps on a chain's side plates) and a RD that has a clutch mechanism to help keep the chain more taught.

I get the impression that these fixes are not cheap though :(
Without my stoker, every trip would only be half a journey

So far the only keeper I've found that looks the part is unavaiable (and handmade).

Looks like I might have to engineer my own....

I have a Rolhoff one that is adjustable all ways, though its black and expensive. but you could copy the design.

If you could post a picture it would be handy. Meanwhile, I've ordered a couple of these http://www.wiggle.co.uk/dmr-hinged-clamps/ as a starting point for fixing something to the seat tube. Might not need both but two would give me a good solid base to bolt things to.

Have just done a bit of searching. If it's this one http://www.rohloff.de/en/products/speedhub/chain_guide_cc/ I'm not sure that my fabrication skills are up to copying it. The cage is too long and narrow too to cope with the lateral movement of the chain across an eight speed cassette.

Thanks for the suggestion anyway.

Some of the Hoy bikes have something similar to what you are looking for, although I've only seen black ones

Thanks. I've emailed them for more details. Looks a possibility although I'm getting used to having my front changer on again. If the Hoy one looks neater I'd go for it though.
