Saw this in Cycle and thought that it looks like a quite nice bike. Not perfect (steerer cut too short, mudguards and panniers sharing a braze on, and not sti) but looks like good value and might be worth cycle to vwork to replace my tired old tourer. What does anyone think?

I bet that Surly Straggler comes in a lot cheaper. And it's available in pink.

I like the pink but not the downward sloping top tube.

Too short chainstays for a tourer IMHO

Howsabout the new 650b version with more 'compact' style (& size...)?

Quite different to the original one. Surprised they didn't make in different colour. Excellent fun bike though, the original.
Re: Genesis Tour de Fer
Looking at the photo so don't know what size it is I estimate the seat angle to be 74 degrees and the head angle to be 72 degrees. So at least some of the angles are sensible for a size of bike! I'll wait for proper geometry and a review or two befor getting excited!

That seatube angle doesn't sound suitable to me for a touring bike.

Don't know what I was thinking. This is not a touring bike IMHO. Shame because I like the look of it.

Re: Genesis Tour de Fer
I saw this and was thinking of test riding one when they arrive. I prefer bar-end to STI on a tourer and the steerer column is higher than my current tourer. I spend most of the year riding a road bike in this postion and find it comfortable and don't want to change my position for the two weeks a year I go touring.
