Ultegra fd6800 NOT working HEELPPPP!

Post by Altaf »

Hi all,

I'm in need of your urgent knowledge .

Iv just built my frame (venge ) sworks!

I'm running ultrgra 6800 groupy #poorman !

However my front mech is not working at all, there no movement I don't know what I'm doing worng
The cabling seems to be fine , rear mech is functioning but front does not want to move . I'm not sure if I'm getting enough tention on the cable . Has anyone experience this ?

I took it to my LBS even they were puzzled !!!!!! I renewed my stop etc but no joy.
It's a braze and brand new .

Any help is much appreciated .

Thanks in advance .

Hardly poor man with Ultegra!

Can you move it by hand without a cable attached? How are the stops set? Does the cable move?

can you move it by pulling the cable yourself?

does the shifter pull the cable?

Hi thanks for the reply ,

The mech does move by hand . It seems as though there is not enough tension on the cable ,
But iv been pulling it tight every time . The shifter clicks fine. But my barrel adjust jams up and I replaced my stops again.

Puzzled !!!!

The shifter clicks but is it pulling the cable?

You have routed the cable to the right side of the Allen key clamp?

Perhaps you should go here http://si.shimano.com/#seriesList/38 , download the FD-6800 and ST-6800 dealer manuals then check your set up against them.

Is the mech tight enough on the braze on? If loose it can get pulled down when you actuate the shift making the cable go slack.

Has the adjuster reached it's maximum point? If so it will just keep on turning and not tighten the cable.
In which case the cable needs to be undone at the mech' and the adjuster screwed back in. Pull the cable tight and re-clamp in position.
You'll never know if you don't try it.

Hi
As has been said, download the manuals for the FD and your levers
Make sure that you've used gear outer casing for the gears (and brake outer for the brakes :) )
Check that the casing end caps are decent and that the ends of the outer casing/caps are seated fully in their respective stops at the lever and on the frame
Make sure that the cable clamp is correctly torqued
Watch the bottom bracket cable guide for movement while changing gear
