Gipemme Frewheel who made it ?

Post by 9494arnold »

I've managed to compromise a very nice Gipemme Freewheel, broke the puller tags off so had to dismantle and trash the freewheel part to get it off hub, never seen one before, can't help thinking it was made by one of the other freewheel manufacturers but which one? I'd like to try and reclaim it.

According to this: http://www.classicrendezvous.com/Italy/ ... e_main.htm
They developed their own line of parts in the 80's, so it's likely it was indeed their own product.

I would expect Gipiemme to have freewheels made for them by another maker TBH. Remember their rear mechs? Simplex with badges on. For freewheels you have to be looking at Regina, Everest, Maillard etc etc as possibilities.

If you look at the sprocket mountings you should be able to work out with what it is compatible with.

http://equusbicycle.com/bike/gipiemme/

appears to show that some models at least built up as compact 6 or compact 7 speed freewheels, with two spline sizes and a threaded #6 or #6/7 pair as a retainer. This is similar in principle to some Maillard freewheels, but if you have the sprockets off the body then they can be better identified from the spline designs. Having said that Gipiemme freewheels say 'made in italy' on them so they shouldn't be Maillard ones anyway.

cheers
