The crankset on my bike needs replacing as the outer chainring in slightly bent causing the chain to rub on the FD.
The bike is 8 speed Sora with a triple crankset (Shimano FC 3303 I think).
Does anyone know if i need to replace it with a 8 speed specific crankset or will a 9 or 10 speed suffice. I'm not too sure a 10 speed chainset with cope with the 8 speed chain (I presume the chain width is wider that a 9 or 10 speed chain), therefore this may cause problems with changing between chainrings.
As it for the Commuter bike, I don't want to spend a fortune.. (PS the current BB is Square Taper).
thanks in advance

Re: Replacing Sora Triple Crankset - 8 Speed
How "bent" is bent.?
I would see if it can be straightened with judicious use of force. Block of wood and hammer or use a vice.
You could also just fit a new chainring or change the whole unit for another make.
Perhaps one of Spa's :-

If changing the whole chainset then just check that your bottom bracket length is suitable.
P.S. I wouldn't consider a 10 speed chainset and the cost will be higher anyway.

You'll never know if you don't try it.

Roseversand do basic Shimano triples from £13.98 http://www.rosebikes.co.uk/products/bik ... cranksets/
They're aluminium with steel rings, ideal for all-weather commuting.

The outer chainring should unbolt and be replacable. Why do you think you need a whole chainset?
