Hello,
I'm Dimas from Indonesia.
Last month I found my parents old Dutch bikes in his warehouse. They are Halfords-Cumberland, ladies type and a Fongers.
Here I would like to ask about tyre. on it rims written: 22x622 (28x1 5/8). What is the suitable tyre size for it?
Thank you in advance and best regards,

asking for tyre size
Re: asking for tyre size
This is the tyre size.
The first two numbers refer to the width ofthe tyre, and can within reason be altered the later three refer to the size of the rim and are fixed.
Google ERTRO for more information

Re: asking for tyre size
22x622 on the rim means that the rim has a seating diameter of 622mm and an internal width of approximately 22mm.
(28x1-5/8") is an archaic (and arguably not unequivocal) way of describing the tyre that fits the rim.
This tyre size if often known as '700C' and the rims are also often known as '700C rims' (even when they have different width tyres mounted on them).
In ETRTO sizing you should be looking for tyres marked 35-622, 37-622, 40-622, 42-622 etc. However there are many tyres that are narrower than that (e.g. 23-622, 25-622, 28-622 etc ) as well.
If you can see the markings on the original tyres, or you know what width tyre will fit under the brakes/mudguards, that will help you choose.
cheers

Re: asking for tyre size
As above
I have a 20 " wheel. which is "406" on the ERTRO System,
Yet when you delve into teh 20" x x.xx inch dimensions there is a 2 inch difference between tyre diameters

I think you've misread the size I think it's 32x622,the 28x1 5/8 is an old way of measuring, the size you want is 700x32 or 32x622 those sizes are the same tyre size.

Re: asking for tyre size
But Dimas says the marking is on the rim not the tyre. As Brucey says the 22x622 denotes the rim size. For example I have an Alesa rim stamped 559x25 and 1.75", which I take to be first the rim and then the tyre size.reohn2 wrote:fx.dimas wrote:Hello,

http://sheldonbrown.com/tire-sizing.html#width seems a fairly good compatibility table to me.
