Re: Vittoria Randonneur Hyper Tyres, heads up
Just fitted a pair to my tourer to replace Marathon Duremes since the Duremes felt so harsh and slow. A roll down test on a nearby hill gave 49s for the Duremes and 45s for the Vittorias. Not far off 10% faster.
Which confirmed my subjective feeling that the Duremes were a slow tyre and the Vittorias fast. The Vittorias also felt more comfortbler on bad surfaces but I couldn't measure that.
The hill gave speeds of 20-25mph probably faster than ideal for comparing rolling resistance. Would the difference be more at touring speeds of 12-15mph.

I've found the same with Vittoria Randonneur Hypers(VRH)-crazy long name for a tyre IMO-they seem to go forever on roll down tests, are very quick and absolute heaven on rough tracks, bridleways, etc.
I also still ride a pair NOS Schwalbe Marathon Slicks which roll very well, are heavier than the VRHs and feel as if they'd be slightly more robust, which in practice aren't,though I haven't worn either tyre right down yet,so can't vouch for longevity/mileage of either.Which reminds me the VRHs already fitted aren't showing any signs of wear after over 1,500miles other than some small cuts which is to be expected due to some of the off road terrain I ride.
I've had one puncture on the VRHs a biggish rose or bramble type thorn that caused a 12mm off centre slash leaving the thorn embedded.
I've found in the last few years Schwalbe tyres seem to have stiffer carcasses, even the Marathon Racers, which are quite a supple tyre, aren't anywhere near as supple as the VRH's and don't roll as well.
The only Schwalbe tyre to compare are Kojaks IME and now are like rocking horse droppings to find in big sizes.
I haven't tried Supremes or Duremes(which seem to have been discontinued) and TBH I don't think I'll be troubling Mr Schwalbe any time soon.

I rate Supremes. Fairly fast, comfortable, and only one puncture between California and Florida. Schwalbe are taking the P with the price though. I'd buy them again at somewhere under £20 per tyre. THe Hypers look pretty similar for half the price at the moment. No contest.
Re: Vittoria Randonneur Hyper Tyres, heads up
I tried to get a straight answer from PlanetX about these tires, but could not. Vittoria is confusing to me.
The Rando Hyper lists as 700x35 ETRTO 37-622 , and 700x37 ETRTO 40x622 . PlanetX just lists them as 37mm and 40mm. So is the 37 and 40 of the ETRTO the truest width , or 35 and 37mm of the 700xXX , respectively ?
I just want to know if I get the " 37mm" from the planetx menu , is it 35mm or 37mm actual ? If I get the "40mm" , is it 37mm or 40mm actual ?

The 700x35s are actual 35mm wide and 35mm in height above my rims - Exal LX17.

PlanetX list 700x37 and 700x40.I can't say about the 40s but as IRC posts above, the 700x37 measure an actual 35wx35h on a touring rim such as DRC ST19 or Mavic 719 etc.
EDIT:- The Vittoria catalogue list the 700x37 as 35c,which is as above 35wx35h,the catalogue lists the 700x40 as 38c,it's reasonable then to expect the 40 to measure 38wx38h

Re: Vittoria Randonneur Hyper Tyres, heads up
Thank You reohn2 and irc , that's exactly what I wanted to know !
Re: Vittoria Randonneur Hyper Tyres, heads up
Planetx no longer list 700x37, the choice is now 700x35 or 700x40
I know that the 700x40 option is marked 40-622, 700x38c on the tyre and measures 39mm wide.
Can anyone confirm what the size of the 700x35 offering actually is, either measured or as marked on the tyre?

A bit confusing isn't it? (more PX's faulty description than anything,IMO)the 700x35mm tyres,which measure 35x35mm are marked 700x35c (37x622) on the sidewall.

A bit?

Re: Vittoria Randonneur Hyper Tyres, heads up
Thanks for this info. I've taken advantage and bought some 40s for my, just finished, Lon las Cymru camping trip - lovely (both the tyres and the trip!). They're widest tyres I've used. except on an MTB, and was most impressed by their ride and easy rolling nature. They measure at 38mm wide on Exal LX17 rims.
Re: Vittoria Randonneur Hyper Tyres, heads up
Doh, 35s sold out, only one tyre left in 40s. Sigh, you snooze you lose.

I got some of these last time they did this sale, so you just have to wait for them to come around again. really nice tyre and had them on my commuter for about a year. Can be a bit slippy if over pumped though...
