That is a great price! I wonder if 35mm Marathon Racers would be sensible for UK commuting and touring, for someone who is not a puncture magnet :?

Yes,they're a good P/resist tyre and light too,but the 35mm are more like a 32mm in size.

P-X's description is a bit scanty...

I am right in thinking that these are HS366 model ? Are they folding or rigid?

Anyone know the weight?

They are a good price whatever the specification.

cheers

They definitely say folding, and I would say that they are the HS366 judging by the picture and comparing with these at SJS: http://www.sjscycles.co.uk/schwalbe-mar ... prod14608/ but OTOH the Gilles Berthould mudguards were described as 60mm and turned out to be 40mm, so anything could turn up in the big box...

EDIT: the 30mm at SJS are listed as 320g, if that is any help

I bought one of these most recent ones and mine was a HS366 but it is different to the last HS366s I got.

They had a nominal weight of 415g and the newer ones have a nominal weight of 375g (but my one weighed in at 333g!)

The grip compound is changed as well, from Qualifier to SpC.

oh yes, so they do...

I agree they do look like those, in which case the weight should be (roughly) 325g for the 30mm, up to ~430g for the 38/40mm size, I suppose.

what width were yours, Meic?

cheers

They sound worth ordering, but I am going away for a week so it will have to wait, also need to look carefully at clearance first, meic do you happen to have checked what sort of width yours come up as?

All folding tyres

Spot on.
I bought three last year and two about a month ago,all from PlanetX.
The earlier 415g ones actually weight 400g and the last ones are marked up as 375g and actually weigh 355g IIRC, on our kitchen scales which though old are prtty acurate. All five are folding.
I also bought two 700x30 also folders, which are marked up on the box as 325g and weigh 320g.

One of the older (35mm)ones is 32mm wide and 30mm tall above the metal on a 17mm rim.
Same as Reohn has said somewhere else on the forum, which means that they should work no problem with RX5 miniV's.

I have checked an older v a newer, side by side, off the rim and they are the same width.

The 700x35mm come up at 32mm wide by 30mm high on a wide 18mm internal width ST19 rim.
700x30mm measure 28Wx26ishH on a similar width DRC STouring rim.

I would agree with comments on size and weight; I would say the 700x35 appears to be more like a 700x32 and the 700x30 a 700x28.
I also recently bought 1 of each from Planet-X. Both are HS366 type.

700x35 part number 11650376 nominal weight 375g. Actual weight 342g, bead edge to bead edge 81mm, width on rim (old tourer) 31.5mm

700x30 part number 11650375 nominal weight 325g. Actual weight 288g!, bead edge to bead edge 70mm, not measured on rim.
Weighed on what I think are quite accurate digital scales (my wife's!), and measured with vernier calipers

I have not adjusted my bike computer for a x35 tyre and I get a mileage reading (several checks over same route) of 10.9 with the Marathon Racer compared with a 11.1 for wired Panaracer Pasela or Michelin World Tour both marked 700x32.This suggests that the Marathon is slightly larger than a x32.

I have ridden the Marathon Racer for only a few hundred miles on the front wheel only, and it certainly 'feels' a light tyre, but gives rather a harsh ride. It's also rather noisy. Much of my riding is on semi rural roads, where I listen out for approaching vehicles and I find the noise of this tyre irritatingly interferes with this. I also ride on tracks and the tyre grips ok on the muddy patches, but the tread does throw muck into the mudguard. With the tread pattern correctly orientated, it doesn't jam. I do not seem to have many problems with punctures compared with some people, even with tyres without puncture protection.

I don't peddle bikes.

Lots of offers there, but my Vittoria Rubino Pro tyres are the same price(ish) as CTC Shop.
