Talking from lack of knowledge here, but would cable routing be troublesome on such a project? I guess you'd have to get cable guides brazed/welded on, unless there are bolt on ones available.

The S2 gear has no cables since the shift is controlled by backpedalling-sensitive gear pixies.

Other SA hub gears and hub brakes are designed to fit onto 'bare' frames in all cases; this is how many roadsters are made to this day. Although they look a fair bit neater with braze-ons, if SA hubs needed braze-ons they would lose half their market overnight.

BTW I think it would be a really good idea for SA to make hub brake variants which fit the brake reaction arms to disc caliper mountings, and also (say) allow the cable for the rear brake and the gear shift to use the conventional cable routing. This would allow manufacturers to offer different models without any retooling for the frame production, as well as slicker aftermarket conversions. IME for commuting and many other purposes hub gears and especially hub brakes are far better than the alternatives in the long run.

cheers
