Re: Bike Storage - hanging bikes up

My solution for the storage of 6 bikes on the wall, 1 on the floor ready for action ... and a trike that I'll master riding one day is at http://www.beewee.org.uk/index.php?opti ... &Itemid=81 using hooks like these http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stor ... yId_242557 [My hooks were bought elsewhere* for about 50% of the Halfords cost]

I would recommend against the simple B&Q plastic coated hooks - they bend easily (or droop!) ... and the plastic coating is not very robust so that it splits and the bare metal hook scratches the wheel rim.

The bikes on the wall are hung alternately by front and back wheels to maximise space (the hooks are about 14" apart c-c) - in between the bike hooks I have some pretty ordinary B&Q hooks to hang spare wheels and tyres up. The bikes also have lengths of foam pipe-lagging on the tubes to protect from scratching.

Works for me!

Rob

* they came from Rose in Germany, as part of a larger order for parts and other bike stuff.

Can you not just hang the bike by hooking the front of the saddle over a roof beam?

This arrangement: hanging by the wheel, is iirc used by none other than Spa Cycles Harrogate 'showroom': a big garage in the back garden. If it's good enough for Spa...

These plastic coated bars are good for 2 bikes and only £10

My Raleigh is hung on a plasterboard wall, with the correct fixings

Has anyone used Halfords "Mottez Bike Storage Wheel Hooks"? Most of my bikes are of the vintage variety so quite heavy, I was just wondering how strong these are.

Not very - they will bend very easily - they're just made from thin tube that's "crushed and drilled" for fixing - thus the fix to the wall will be unstable too.

The hooks (Halfords sell then) in the link in my earlier post are excellent - strong and stable http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stor ... yId_242557 - OK, they're a lot more money .. but probably a minor issue against the value of the bike?
