'Dog tooth' device to stop chain dropping off ?
'Dog tooth' device to stop chain dropping off ?
Can anyone recommend somewhere I can get a small moulded plastic device called a 'dog tooth'. This clamps onto the frame, very close to the inner chain ring, and prevents the chain dropping off the ring when changing down.
Ive recently converted my touring bike to 9 speed sti's, and having taken it out yesterday the chain came off a couple of times. The front mech is adjusted correctly, as there is only a very small distance between the mech and the chain. It was also done by a good local shop, so am sure they would have adjusted it properly. I used to have a dogs tooth on a bike some time ago, but am unsure where to get hold of one now ?

People who have tried both, report that the Jump Stop by N-gear works better.
Unfortunately you can only get it direct, but that's not too difficult.

A chainring gaurd. They're commonly spec'd as original equipment on trekking style bikes, to stop chainring teeth slicing into the rider's calf if their foot slips off the pedal, but they keep the chain from overshifting too.

I have a chainguard and a dog fang type thing on my Dahon (9sp) but the chain, when changing onto the smallest sprockets, jumps up and slides over the teeth of the chainring at a slight angle. The cure is to change back up and then try again with more pressure on the pedals. Not always successful when going down hill.
Any suggestions?

Moulton produce one, chain guide that is, for their single chain wheel bikes but it's about 30 quid and made to measure.
BTW the Jump stop works really well and its no problem to order it from the USA.
You can get it from here http://www.gvtc.com/~ngear/ don't expect any communication from them but they will send it. Takes about 2 weeks.
