Removing old glue from sprint rims

Post by flash »

What can I use to get the glue residue off of sprint rims, ideally something I can get from my local DIY?

I used petrol when I had to do it.
The glue was well caked on and a petrol-soaked rag did it a treat.

Just make sure you do it outside rather than in the kitchen!

Petrol
Cheapest and mist effective.
To keep it period, assuming old rims don't use PPE and smoke whilst doing it.

I've just done this. To move the bulk of hardened glue I used a sanding cylinder on a Dremel. The diameter is just right for the curve of the rim. Because of course it clogs up it takes about 2 to do one rim. Then use Acetone to remove the rest of the glue. If the glue is not hard the Acetone alone will do it easily. You can buy Acetone from Boots the chemist (under the counter), one bottle is likely to be enough for 2 rims. http://www.boots.com/en/Care-Acetone-Ho ... ml_983933/

Used to use a curved wood chisel for the majority, then petrol.
