Exposure Flare rear light mounting
Exposure Flare rear light mounting
Can anyone suggest a good way of mounting an Exposure flare rear light. It is made to go on the seat post but with a bagman and carradice audax bag that isn't an option. I'd rather not mount it on the mudguard.
This seems to leave the bagman rack or the seat stay but as the bracket is made for the rear tilting seat tube it ends up pointing upwards.
I am thinking of carving some wood but any other ideas gratefully appreciated.

That doesn't work, the bracket is open on one side. After a couple of hours riding it could vibrate out.
I am now thinking of using a wine cork, cut to match the angle of the seat tube. Just opened a bottle of wine in fact to steal the cork.

I have the plug in red eye which looks to have the same fitting. I turned upside down on the seatstay, no problem. Not sure why that’s not OK for yours but I guess yours is heavier with the battery and also doesn’t have the cable as an emergency anchor if the fitting fails. I also wedged a bit of something in to fettle it to just the right angle – just cardboard rather than cork, but same idea as yours.

Thanks, cork it is then, and yes, red all the way.

Can you make a faux seat post to sling under the bagman support, or is that attached to the bag?
A shortcut has to be a challenge, otherwise it would just be the way. No situation is so dire that panic cannot make it worse.

"Bagman support" - Ahhh is that what they are called! They look dead handy
I'll post a separate thread, so not to hijack the OP's query
Re: Exposure Flare rear light mounting
Mention of a horizontal plastic tube in the other topic about the bagman made me think you could use a plastic plumbing T joint (example for less than £2 at Screwfix). If I was doing it I would probably cut away most of the top of the T to leave 2 arms to fix to the bagman with the bottom of the T hanging down at the right angle for the light.

Just to update, this is perfect. Attached to the centre of the bagman rack. Very sturdy.

I have one these as a second rear light. It must look very entertaining when it's raining and I have the cycle cape on since it drapes past the saddle meaning the (bright yellow) cape is lit up on the inside

any chance of a pic. of how it works? I have the same problem...I have used half a clothes peg taped to the rack to get a vertical surface
Re: Exposure Flare rear light mounting
Here you go Fast. Angle adjusted to that of the seat post. Once tightened it is solid. Not bad for a fiver.

That looks really neat! What size tubing will that Madison mount cope with?
