front drum brake hub 75mm dropouts

Post by shouldbeinbed »

I'm fettling my old Dahon folder which had 75mm front dropouts for its 20 inch wheels

The rim brakes it has are ok but not great, Road and Brompton calipers are too short a drop but I have found some Tektro long drop ones that look like they'd be an improvement.

I've always fancied having a go on drum brakes though, just to see how they do - this is the ideal pootle/multi mode bike to give them a go on I think.

I can find front hubs with with a 100mm over locknut width for bigger wheel bikes but my Googling so far has failed to find anything other than a dynohub at 75mm.

Does anyone know if there is a drum brake hub at 75mm? I'm happy to build it up into a new wheel with different spoke count from the current 28 if needs be. Drum & dyno hub combination would be good but I suspect the small width limits how much you can stuff into a hub.

Greenspeed cut an SA hub down to fit the Brompton (80mm front hub) but I am not sure if they still sell them:

West country recumbents used to import them:

brilliant thank you.

West country look to do a full wheel replacement at £195 out of stock but happy to order, dunno if thats old news now though, I'll drop them a line. The cost may well be the factor that keeps me on rim brakes.
